The Surname Potts

Potts is my maternal grandmother's mother's family name. It's origin is probably derived from the old English word 'Potte' - meaning the dweller by a hollow or pit.

My Potts ancestors originally came from Cheshire around the Alsager, Nantwich and Sandbach areas in the latter part of the eighteenth century, moving to Birmingham in the late 1800s.

Richard Potts is confirmed as my GG Grandfather. More research is needed to finally confirm that the parents I currently have found for him are correct, but the likelihood that they are is high. This descendant report shows all descendant from my earliest known Potts ancestor Samuel Potts, in my tree except where it joins the Dyer descendant report. A link joins the two reports.
